Daniel Ares Lopez (PhD candidate) is a native Spanish speaker who has taught Spanish to adults for many years. His areas of interest include linguistics, philology, and teaching Spanish as a second language in multicultural classrooms.
Maytee Aspuro (MA, Edgewood College) is the former Chief Information Officer/Information Technology Director of the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. Owner of AyG Management Consulting, she offers management consulting and training services throughout the state.
Emily Auerbach is a UW-Madison English professor who has won teaching, broadcasting, and arts awards. She's the author of <em>Searching for Jane Austen</em> and the director of the UW Odyssey Project.
Deborah Bachmann has been a local and international instructor since the mid-1980s. She began as a mediator and instructor with the Center for Conflict Resolution and currently teaches "Heart of Communication" at MATC and her Tao Sangha Healing Center. Bachmann is dedicated to assisting learners to strengthen their empathetic muscles and listening skills for the benefit of all.
Tami Bahr (LCSW, CSAC, ICS, EAGALA-certified), is the owner of Triquestrian, LLC, an equine-assisted psychotherapy program. She is also a therapist at Open Door Center for Change, LLC and a full time lecturer at Edgewood College. Bahr is on the executive committee for the Recovery Coalition of Dane County and is the Wisconsin Network Group Coordinator for EAGALA.
Steven Barczi MD, is a board certified geriatrician, faculty at UW School of Medicine and Public Health and clinical geriatric medicine at Middleton Memorial Veteran's Hospital, Madison WI. Dr. Barczi plays a major role at the UW to direct and advise the institution on establishing new directions in geriatric clinical models, education and curriculum development.

Antonio Benitez-Noguera (PhD in Spanish, UW-Madison) is from Madrid, where he managed his own company for many years. He has taught language and culture courses at UW-Madison, Edgewood College, and Minnesota State University.
Robert Birmingham has authored several books on Wisconsin archaeology and history. His latest is a second edition of <i>Indian Mounds of Wisconsin</i> (UW Press, 2017) with Amy Rosebrough of the Wisconsin Historical Society. Now retired, he was the Wisconsin State Archaeologist at the Wisconsin Historical Society and a senior lecturer at UW-Waukesha.
Anthony Black is a visual artist and UW PhD candidate Composition and Rhetoric. His interests are in visual rhetoric and visual culture. His teaching experiences range from studio art practices to African-American Literature and Art History.

CHRISTOPHER S. BOVEROUX
Christopher S. Boveroux is a doctoral student in Choral Conducting at UW-Madison. His research interests include music from the Renaissance and Baroque, as well as music from underrepresented composers. He also serves as director of music at First Baptist Church of Madison.
Ted Bowman is an educator who specializes in change and transition for families, organizations, and communities. He is an adjunct professor teaching grief and loss courses at the University of Saint Thomas School of Social Work. For more than 35 years, he has led workshops nationally and internationally. His two booklets, <em>Loss of Dreams: A Special Kind of Grief</em> and <em>Finding Hope When Dreams Have Shattered,</em> are well-known resources about grief and loss.
Yeang-Eng Braun (PhD, UW-Madison) had a 27-year career as an economist and tax policy analyst with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, retiring as administrator of the Division of Policy and Analysis in 2005.
NORA J. BRENNAN, BSN, RN, CHFN
Nora J. Brennan BSN, RN, CHFN, has been an RN for over 30 years and has spent most of them working in Philadelphia, at the University of Pennsylvania Health System – Penn Medicine. The vast majority of her experience was in providing care to patients and their loved ones living with advanced heart failure. First at the bedside in CCU/CICU, then the ambulatory Heart and Vascular Center in as a Heart Failure nurse coordinator. In 2012, she launched the Primary Care Connector Nurse program under the direction of nursing and CEQI teams at HUP. This team focused on improving system wide transitions in care and aimed to reduce 30 day readmissions. Most recently, Nora has combined her passions for heart failure management, palliative care, and technology in a new role as Home Telehealth Nurse. She loves helping people navigate the challenges of living with chronic illness in our society. Her passion also lies in guiding people through having difficult conversations with their loved ones and health care providers, so that their wishes are heard along their illness trajectory."
Robert Breslow is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS) and associate professor in the School of Pharmacy at UW-Madison, where he runs the geriatric pharmacy clinic and teaches. He has more than 25 years of experience in general and geriatric pharmacy.
BRIANNA J. BUTERA
Brianna J. Butera (MA) is a doctoral candidate in Descriptive Spanish Linguistics at UW-Madison. Her research interests include language variation and change and historical linguistics. She has spent time abroad in Spain and has traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica and Ecuador. She enjoys integrating her experiences abroad and cultural themes into the language classroom.
Scott Caldwell (MA) is a licensed substance abuse counselor who has trained professionals working with youth in health care, schools, juvenile justice, and human services.
Joshua Calhoun (PhD, Univ. of Delaware) is an assistant professor in the Department of English at UW-Madison and a faculty affiliate at the Nelson Institute's Center for Culture, History, and Environment.
James Campbell (PhD), faculty member and associate dean for UW-Madison Continuing Studies, previously served as interim dean and vice provost for lifelong learning. He also coordinates the UW-Madison Conference on Child Sexual Abuse, which draws 800-1,000 participants every year.
Otehlia Cassidy is an energetic dancer/educator whose interpretations of traditional West African dance movement reveal artistry steeped in experience. She has traveled numerous times to Mali and Guinea, studying traditional dances within their cultural context, and continues to study with Malian and Guinean dancers in the U.S.
SUZANNA WATERS CASTILLO, MSSW, PHD
Suzanna Waters Castillo (MSSW, PhD, UW-Madison) is a distinguished faculty associate at Continuing Studies. As director of professional development in geriatric mental health, she developed the Mental Health and the Older Adult Certificate Series, the only regional, evidence-based training for professionals working with older adults.
Diana Cavallero (MFA, UW-Madison) has a background in both art and education. She is a painter working primarily with the figure across a variety of media. A UW-Madison university-wide fellow, Cavallero has exhibited in Madison, Chicago, and New York.
Christopher Chambers (MFA, Univ. of Alabama) is an experienced editor, teacher, and writer. He has taught writing for more than 20 years, has published widely (fiction, nonfiction, poetry), is the author of <em>Delta 88,</em> a book of short fiction, and is the recipient of five Pushcart Prize nominations and an NEA fellowship for writing.
Jana Champion (BS, Mount Mary Univ.) is the director of the Wisconsin State Crime Lab. She is a Wisconsin Certified Public Manager and currently supervises five direct reports and more than 170 staff in three laboratories.
Mare Chapman (MA) has studied and practiced mindfulness and taught classes in insight meditation, which cultivates mindfulness, for more than 20years. She finds mindfulness to be the most effective and empowering tool for transforming our deeply ingrained conditioned patterns, and for handling the full gamut of challenges life gives us with greater ease and stability.
Arsenio Cicero (PhD, UW-Madison), is a native of Havana and an experienced Spanish instructor who has taught extensively in Wisconsin. He is interested in combining language and culture in the classes he teaches.
Amy Clay (MA, University of Caen) is a PhD candidate in second language acquisition. She has lived and taught in Normandy, France and has extensive teaching experience in a variety of settings.
Harold Coltharp worked for Wisconsin state government for over 38 years, the last 21 with the State Records Center of the Department of Administration. He is a Wisconsin Certified Public Manager, was the executive secretary for the State Public Records Board, and a past president of the Madison chapter of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators.
Simone Conceicao is a professor of Adult and Continuing Education and teaches courses in the areas of distance education, use of technology with adult learners, instructional design, and adult learning. Her research interests include adult learning, distance education, impact of technology on teaching and learning, instructional design, learning objects, staff development, and international education. She is the coordinator for the Certificates in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and Support Services for Online Students in Higher Education.
Marshall Cook teaches writing for UW-Madison. His 26 published books include the Monona Quinn Mystery series and the true crime book <em>The Great Wisconsin Manhunt of 1961.</em> He edits Creativity Connection: The Writer's Quarterly Encouragement.
Jessica Courtier (PhD, UW-Madison) is program director in music and performing arts at Continuing Studies. She oversees noncredit programs in music, dance, history, and humanities and teaches courses on music culture and history. Courtier's research and teaching interests focus on historical popular American culture.
Frank Crisafi (JD) is a former chief juvenile prosecutor in Milwaukee County and attorney for the Madison Metropolitan School District. He practiced law in the areas of juvenile justice, special education, confidentiality of pupil records, and school discipline. He currently teaches seminars in juvenile justice administration and school law for social workers and law enforcement officers throughout Wisconsin.
JULIE M. DAHL
Julie M. Dahl (PhD, UW-Madison) directs the Continuing Studies Spanish programs and has extensive experience teaching adult language learners in a variety of contexts in the U.S. and abroad. Her area of expertise is contemporary Spanish and Portuguese culture and language for business.
Kristin Dalby (MA Applied Linguistics & TESOL) is an instructor in the ESL Program at UW-Madison. She has taught in many different types of classrooms, from business English to English for academic purposes, from intensive English programs to teacher training and even exam preparation. Her ESL career has taken her to live and work in many places including the Czech Republic, New Zealand and South Korea. Although Kristin enjoys teaching all ESL skills, oral communication classes are her favorite.
Thomas Dale is director of medieval studies and professor of art history at UW-Madison. A graduate of the University of Toronto and the Johns Hopkins University, his research and teaching encompass Early Christian, Byzantine, Western European, and Medieval Art.
Deirdre Danahar (MSW, MPH, ACC) is skilled in fostering reflective practice and supervisory relationships. With more than 20 years' experience working in social services, public health, and prevention she has been a trusted coach and consultant for leaders in business, government, and nonprofit organizations.

Arthur De Smet is professor emeritus of radiology with a lifelong interest in European history, landscape, and architectural photography. He has taught eight Continuing Studies courses, including English history and church architecture, English gardens, and medieval Germany.

JOHN D. DELAMATER
John D. Delamater is the Conway-Bascom Professor of Sociology at UW-Madison. He brings a broad, biopsychosocial perspective to the study of sexuality throughout life. He co-edited Sex for Life: From Virginity to Viagra, How Sexuality Changes Throughout Our Lives
Maggie Delaney-Potthoff performs throughout the United States and Europe with the highly acclaimed band Harmonious Wail. One of Madison's finest jazz vocalists, she is also a private vocal coach and a recording artist.
Christine DeSmet is an award-winning writer of novels and screenplays who teaches fiction and screenwriting and mentors other writers at UW-Madison. Her mystery series debuted with <em>First-Degree Fudge</em>. She directs the annual June UW-Madison Write-by-the-Lake Writer's Workshop & Retreat, where she teaches a Master Class for novelists.
Lori Devoti has garnered excellent reviews for her teaching at Write-by-the-Lake Writer's Workshop & Retreat and at Writers' Institute. The author of urban fantasy, contemporary romance, and paranormal romance, she's been a finalist for many awards.
Mary Diman (MFA, UW-Madison), has taught studio painting for UW-Madison, the School of the Arts at Rhinelander, and other groups for 30 years. Her paintings are in invitational and juried shows, museums, and collections around the U.S.
Stella Dobbins (MA, Univ. of Houston) is an artist and art historian who exhibits her artwork nationwide and is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.

Erin Donaho is a nurse practitioner from Houston, TX with a wealth of experience providing palliative care and disease management for patients with advanced heart failure. She is currently developing a heart failure-specific hospice care model with Seasons Hospice.
Skye Doney (PhD History, UW-Madison) is the assistant director of the George L. Mosse Program. He completed his PhD dissertation, <em>Moving Toward the Sacred</em>, in 2016. Doney has lived and researched in Germany and Israel and has taught history courses at UW-Madison and Concordia University Wisconsin.
James Draeger is architectural historian and State Historic Preservation Officer at the Wisconsin Historical Society. He is co-author of the national award winning book,
Bottoms Up: A Toast to Wisconsin's Historic Bars and Breweries
and historical consultant to the Wisconsin Public Television program.

Christina Eddington Christina Eddington (MA, TESOL) is an English as a Second Language instructor who has taught in a variety of academic and community settings both in the United States and in South Africa. She also has experience as a teacher trainer. When not in the classroom, she travels the world by bicycle.
Craig Eley (PhD, Univ. of Iowa) is the assistant director of humanities networks at the UW-Madison Center for the Humanities. At the University of Iowa, he undertook historical work in sound studies and the environmental humanities.
Robert Enright (PhD), a licensed psychologist and a professor of educational psychology at UW-Madison, has been a leader in the scientific study of forgiveness and its effects since 1985. He is the author of more than 100 publications including five books. He has worked in schools within conflict regions such as Belfast, Northern Ireland, assisting teachers to deliver forgiveness programs to students.

Donna Erez Navot (JD, Cardozo Law School) directs the Mediation Clinic at the UW-Madison Law School. She worked in the Child Permanency Mediation Program of the New York City Family Court, where she mediated placement of children in foster care.
Deneille Erikson is a PhD candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, specializing in Spanish literature and cultural studies. She has taught all levels of Spanish language classes to all ages.
BETH FAHLBERG, PHD
Beth Fahlberg (PhD, RN) is a program director for Continuing Studies and is a board-certified adult and geriatric nurse practitioner. Fahlberg is a national leader in the palliative care movement, with a focus on the importance of meeting the physical and psycho-social end-of-life care needs of older adults.
Marian Farrior (MS, Slippery Rock Univ.) is an environmental educator and consultant. She works at UW-Madison Arboretum, providing leadership training in ecological restoration. Farrior has a degree in Sustainable Systems, and is a certified Permaculture teacher, gardener, and volunteer WI Master Naturalist.

Steve Fondow (PhD, The Ohio State Univ.) is an associate lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UW-Madison, specializing in Spanish morphology, phonology, and grammar. He also studied at the Universidad de la Complutense in Madrid, Spain.
Thais Fonseca (MA, UW-Madison) is a Brazilian Portuguese translator and instructor. Born and raised in Brazil, she enjoys introducing others to her language through teaching and translation.

Manuela Francavilla Manuela Francavilla (MA) grew up in Northern Italy where she earned her undergraduate degree in foreign languages (Spanish and French). For over ten years she has been living in Madison, WI where she has been working as an Italian translator and instructor.
Philip Freeburg is a local government law educator in the Local Government Center of UW-Extension, Cooperative Extension. He specializes in the powers and duties of local government bodies and officials, local government law, and open meetings and records, as well as ethics and conflicts of interest.

Roberta Gassman (MSSW, UW-Madison) is a senior fellow in the School of Social Work at the UW-Madison. She previously served as deputy assistant secretary for employment and training for the United States Department of Labor.
Kathy Germann (MA, Ohio State Univ.) has more than 30 years of experience teaching, consulting, facilitating, and coaching with more than 300 client groups across the country, and served as an ad hoc instructor for UW-Madison for 24 years. Germann also taught on three college campuses and was an executive director in the nonprofit sector. She brings a deep sense of passion and a healthy sense of humor to her work.
Sage Goellner (PhD, UW-Madison) is an assistant professor of French and directs Continuing Studies programs in French. She has taught French language and culture for over 20 years, has lived in France, and enjoys sharing her interest in French and Francophone cultures with students.

Alaina K. Goldstone is a performer and instructor of classical ballet and West African dance. She performed with West African Dance of Madison (WADOMA) for 10 years and brings more than 20 years of dance training from artists around the world to the Madison community. Beverly Gordon (MA, PhD) is a collage and assemblage artist, writer (recent book: Textiles: The Whole Story), and facilitator of workshops that help individuals access their inner guidance through creative expression. She is a retired professor from Design Studies, UW-Madison.

Joseph Goveas (MD) is an associate professor and clinician in the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin and is board certified in geriatric psychiatry.
Deborah Grassman is a mental health and hospice nurse practitioner whose career at the VA spanned 30 years, where she personally cared for more than 10,000 dying veterans. She is CEO and co-founder of Opus Peace, whose mission is to provide educational programs that respond to the soul injury that occurs during trauma, abuse, self-neglect, and chronic/serious illness. She is the author of Peace at Last and The Hero Within.
Luisa Gregori (MA, Linguistics, University of Pisa) is an award-winning instructor and is currently completing her doctorate in Italian literature.
Matthew Griffin is a doctoral student in applied Spanish linguistics at UW-Madison with graduate minors in English language and linguistics and second language acquisition. He received his MA in English linguistics and graduate certificates in Hispanic studies and community college instruction from East Carolina University.
Jack Grotsky has more than 15 years of experience in state government and more than 10 years with TLFS. At the state level he has held multiple positions in finance, training, and IT and is certified in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
Al Guyant (BS, UW-Milwaukee) is president of Guyant & Associates, a training and consulting firm that specializes in human communications and services. He is a nationally recognized trainer, facilitator, media coach, and author with more than 35 years of experience.
Jan Hagedorn (PhD student) has taught French and Spanish for many years and lived and studied in Montpellier, France.
Peggy Hager (MA in Scandinavian languages and literature, UW-Madison) is a lecturer in Norwegian at UW-Madison. She has taught Norwegian, and English as a Second Language, for more than 20 years.
Lisa Hajek has maintained a regular yoga practice for 20 years and has taught the Iyengar Method for 10 years. She has studied twice in India under the direction of the Iyengar family and is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher.
Michael Hammer (PhD) is a psychologist and trainer in emotional intelligence, organizational change, and stress management. He has been a primary trainer for team leader/facilitator skills since 1998. He works at Mendota Mental Health Institute and also in private practice.

Daniel J. Hill is a local government specialist with UW-Extension's Local Government Center. He specializes in leadership development, running meetings of governmental units, open government laws, parliamentary procedure, and conducting local elections.
Flo Hilliard (MS) is a faculty associate with Continuing Studies and lectures throughout the state and nationally on substance use disorders. She is the program director of the Substance Abuse and Motivational Interviewing Certificate Programs and the director of Wisconsin Voices for Recovery, a statewide project that advocates for reducing stigma, raising awareness and providing education around the science of addiction and recovery.
Christine Inthachith (MA, UW-Madison), provides leadership and coordination for noncredit programs in Continuing Studies developed for international audiences and she serves as the Director of the American Culture and English residential program (ACE). She has extensive international experience, including consulting, teaching, and volunteer work in Southeast Asia and Central America.

Heidi Krause danced as a soloist with the Kanopy Dance Company while completing her certification in therapeutic massage, then moved to New York to dance and study improvisation and somatic movement therapy. Kevin Mullen (PhD, UW-Madison) is the assistant director of the UW Odyssey Project, a free, six-credit humanities course for adults who face economic barriers to their education. He has taught writing for more than 10 years. At many Continuing Studies writing events, Mullen assumes the moniker of the Writing Doctor and helps writers with a range of ailments.

Bill Tishler is professor emeritus of landscape architecture. He has lectured widely, is an award-winning author, and has won numerous teaching awards from the Wisconsin Historical Society, the National Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Vivian Tomlinson trained at the University of Cape Town Ballet School, South Africa, before he became a principal dancer with the Wisconsin Ballet Company.
Molly Tomony (MA, ATR-BC, LPC) is a child and family therapist for the Rainbow Project in Madison, Wisconsin. She has taught art therapy and education for the University of Wisconsin and Edgewood College, and has worked in several hospices, specializing in art therapy and grief work with children. Tomony has written manuals for running grief groups in school settings, has worked with individuals with disabilities, and is currently an art instructor for SALSO (Strong Artistic Ladies Speaking Out).
Robert Toomey (EdD, Edgewood College and MA, Viterbo Univ.) is a program director with Continuing Studies, where he works with leadership and management programs. Previously he worked in public service with several Wisconsin state government agencies in the areas of training and human resources.
Leyla Topal (BA, Middle East Technical Univ., Turkey) was born and raised in Bodrum, Turkey. She has been a licensed tour guide in Turkey since 1995 and creates and leads tailor-made tours there. She divides her time between Madison and Turkey.
Ridley Usherwood (MA, D.Min) has more than 40 years of experience in education, teaching, research, and program design. He is a grief support coordinator for Home Health United as well as a practicing marriage and family therapist. Usherwood has taught classes in multi-cultural studies at Edgewood College and was formerly the director of the Intercultural Studies Program at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. He has worked in South Korea, Brazil, Great Britain, Ghana, Germany, Argentina, the Philippines, Ecuador, and Canada. He also assisted in the development of Hope Africa University in Nairobi, Kenya.
SHARON M. VAN SLUIJS
Sharon M. Van Sluijs (MFA, University of Iowa) has taught grammar, writing, and literature since 1990. She has worked at UW Press, UW-Madison, Washburn University, and SUNY and has written and edited for a wide range of clients through her manuscript consulting business.
Guy Vanrensselaer (BS, UW-Madison) is the process improvement specialist for the City of Madison. He has been an instructor for the Wisconsin Certified Public Manager program for more than 20 years, and provides consulting services to public and nonprofit organizations statewide.
Manuel Vellón has more than 40 years of experience as a professional percussionist and teacher. He's played locally and internationally with various groups and singers and is cofounder of Madison's Grupo Candela.
KRISTEN L. VESBACH
Kristen L. Vesbach (MS, Mount Mary College) is a professionally trained art psychotherapist and licensed professional counselor with a wealth of experience using the creative process of art making to improve and enhance physical, mental, and emotional health.
Art Walaszek (MD) is a board-certified psychiatrist and associate professor of psychiatry at the UW-Madison School of Medicine. He has extensive clinical experience in geriatric psychiatry and was named on the 2010 list of "Top Docs" in the Madison area.
George Watson is an internal consultant in the Office of Quality Improvement at UW-Madison. His campus roles include strategic planning, project management, and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of campus services and programs.
Lisa Webne-Behrman (PhD), licensed psychologist and mediator, is senior partner with Collaborative Initiative, an organization that provides training, facilitation, mediation, and dispute resolution systems design. She is also senior psychologist at UW-Madison Counseling Center, focused on mindfully addressing life's challenges.
Craig Werner teaches in the UW-Madison Department of Afro-American Studies. He is a member of the Nominating Committee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and his numerous publications include <i>A Change is Gonna Come: Music, Race and the Soul of America</i>.
Sarah White has written feature articles in venues such as Microsoft's bCentral portal for small business and the Credit Union National Association's Googolplex website for young people. Her areas of expertise include marketing, entrepreneurship, leadership, workplace skills, and consumer awareness. She taught for UW-Superior and Wheelhouse Studios, and holds a journalism degree from Indiana University.
Jacy Whitehead is an English as a Second Language instructor and teacher trainer for Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification. She has worked in a variety of environments including the Navajo Nation and Mato Grosso, Brazil. Locally, Whitehead has facilitated classes to empower service staff with English skills, as well as supported international students working toward American university admission.
Doug Whittle (MFA, Univ. of Florida) has led Continuing Studies educational tours to Egypt, Peru, Tanzania, Vietnam, Cambodia, and many other international destinations, as well as performing arts and visual arts travel experiences in North America.

Rebecca Williams Spindler (BA, UW-Madison) has written a three-book, award-winning YA series with her teen daughter for Little Creek Books. She has taught writing classes for Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum, UW-Madison Literary Fest, and the Southeast Wisconsin Book Festival, and is vice-president of the Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum.
Janet Wood (MA, UW-Madison) is an experienced instructor of Italian for adults and a lifelong Italophile who has lived, studied, and traveled throughout Italy.

Zack Zdrale (MFA, Academy of Art Univ.) is an honors graduate in figurative painting. He has taught life drawing and figure painting courses at Academy of Art University and UW-Madison and continues to teach online.
